Just Embarrassing

John Garamendi is the Democratic Lt. Governor of California.  John Garamendi is the Democratic candidate for the special election being held fill the open U.S. House district 10 in California.  John Garamendi is an experienced politician.  John Garamendi was endorsed by former President Bill Clinton.  John Garamendi is running an aggressive campaign.  John Garamendi…send out a direct mail attack piece that attacked a man who isn’t running against him, who doesn’t live in California, and who probably only now knows who John Garamendi is.

The problem is, the David Harmer it cites isn’t the same David Harmer who is running for Congress.

The citation refers to a Deseret News article from 2004, which quotes a David Harmer who is executive director of the state’s Department of Community and Economic Development.

The David Harmer running for Congress says that’s not him, and that he wasn’t living in Utah at the time.

“Garamendi has mailed a completely false and inaccurate charge against David Harmer, and we demand he immediately apologize and retract his smear attack,” Harmer campaign manager Mike Caporusso said.

What’s more – John Garamendi didn’t apologize for getting the facts 100% wrong.  Read the story and see the mailer from The Hill.

Obama is no Clinton…

But his health care plan apparently is.  From Bill McInturff over at Public Opinion Strategies:

“This data is highly problematic for the President and clearly demonstrates the struggle President Obama faces as he tries to sell his health care plan to Americans.” said Bill McInturff, co‑founder and partner of Public Opinion Strategies.

The survey, conducted August 11‑13, provides some revealing points of comparison for public opinion today versus June of 1994:

President Clinton’s Plan (June 1994)
President Obama’s Plan (August 2009)
67% Familiar with the plan
23% Favor the plan
35% Oppose the plan
42% Have no opinion
52% “The more I hear about the plan the less I like it”
34% “The more I hear about the plan the more I like it”
64% Familiar with the plan
25% Favor the plan
37% Oppose the plan
37% Have no opinion
49% “The more I hear about the plan the less I like it”
38% “The more I hear about the plan the more I like it”

McInturff stated, “This data is hauntingly similar to what we saw in 1994.  President Obama is learning the same lesson that the Clintons learned: Too much government intervention in the health care system can alienate more voters than it attracts.”

Yes, the American people seem to think that too much of a bad thing really is bad for them…and America.  See the entire release.  Check out the toplines and charts.
