The Boston Globe is reporting that Massachusetts Democrat State Treasurer Tim Cahill is about to run for governor (it seems) as an independent.  Using the classic “I’m not leaving the party, but the party left me” line, Cahill is positioning himself to take on incumbent Democrat Governor Deval Patrick.

With a 57% job DISAPPROVAL rating, and recent polls showing the incumbent Democrat running 1 pt behind  Republican hopeful Christy Mihos, Patrick doesn’t need any credible candidate coming in to strip away his Democrat support.  If things continue down this path it wouldn’t be surprising to see Governor Patrick not seek re-election.  If that happens, Mr. Cahill is stuck as an independent, and maybe another solid statewide Dem throws her name into the mix.  Who – why not Democrat A.G. Martha Coakley?
